I co-founded Conscious Family™ Law & Mediation LLC because I have no tolerance for family law attorneys who increase conflict unnecessarily, and I wanted to expand on the services available for people to minimize the cost and harm of the divorce (or legal separation) process. My primary passion is to employ my skill as an attorney-mediator, helping parties without individual lawyers to transition apart mindfully and efficiently. In addition, when called on as supervising lawyer, I enjoy the challenge of bringing creativity and integrity to legal advocacy before a tribunal or in a negotiation setting, in order to protect our client’s interests at all levels and ensure that individuals feel empowered throughout the process.
I am a collaboratively-trained attorney and mediator, and have practiced exclusively in the area of family law in Colorado since joining the bar: first as a judicial clerk for several judges at the Boulder District Court, then as an associate for attorney-mediator and former judge Sheila Carrigan. I am an alumnus of the University of Colorado Law School (Law Review); the National Institute of Trial Advocacy; the Colorado Bar Association 40-hour mediation training; and the Colorado Collaborative Divorce Professionals Level I Collaborative Law training. I volunteer regularly for the Boulder County "Ask-an-Attorney" program.
I draw on my professional skill set, a playful approach to life, and over twenty years of personal experience in the trenches of marriage, divorce, and fatherhood, in order to serve families through all stages of their journey together. In addition to divorce mediation, I enjoy mediating with couples who have a desire to stay together by getting clear on joint intentions, commitments, and key problem areas that must be resolved. I pursue a personal practice of meditation and yoga, and perform music alongside my wife Katie Wise. I have been interviewed and speak regularly about issues related to men and couples.
